Meet our Director!
Abi Archey
With a passion for music and a commitment to choral excellence, Abi Archey is an accomplished choir director with a deep appreciation for the enriching qualities of music in day to day life.
Originally from Boise, Idaho, Abi grew up in a musical household with a music teacher mother and artist father. She dove into any creative endeavor from a young age including drawing, crafting, sewing, piano lessons, band, and choir. She graduated from Idaho State University with a BME in 2012 and set off on a great adventure teaching music in Austin, Texas!
In the years since, Abi has taught general music, choir, and music theory at all levels K-12 as well as in the private voice studio. Her dearest passion lies in building musical community through choral singing.
Abi holds a MMEd from Texas State University, where she specialized in Kodaly Pedagogy, with specific focus on utilizing a sound-before-symbol approach in the choral classroom. Utilizing this technique and honing her choral craftsmanship over her 11 year career in the K-12 classroom led many choirs to great success in the Texas UIL setting and beyond! Her extensive experience encompasses both classical and contemporary genres, allowing her to lead choirs with versatility and artistic insight. Her dynamic leadership style, meticulous attention to vocal technique, and ability to foster a sense of community within the choir have been instrumental in producing unforgettable performances.
Abi is the proud mom of a beautiful 8 month old boy, Imani Kai. When not enthralled with music-making, Abi loves spending time with her family, hiking, reading, hearing live music, and watercolor.
It is with joy and excitement that Abi Archey steps into the director role of River City Pops as they celebrate their 40th season. She looks forward to a memorable season inspiring and guiding vocal talents to their highest potential in what will surely be another unforgettable performance!
