River City Pops welcomes Spring 2020 Interim Director
Adam Roberts has served as artistic director, musical director, and choreographer for a wide range of companies, productions and projects throughout his career. An Austin-based artist, you can find Adam at St. Luke United Methodist Church (Director of Music), TILT Performance Group (Co-Founding Artistic Director), The Actor’s School (Voice Faculty/Head of Musical Theatre), The Long Center for the Performing Arts (Resident Musical Director for Education), Ballet Austin (Musical Theatre Dance Faculty), River City Pops (Interim Artistic Director), and as a freelance director, conductor, and consultant on various projects. Additional Austin-area credits include work at the Austin Jewish Repertory Theater (Founding Artistic Director), Austin Conservatory of Theatre, Austin Shakespeare, Ground Floor Theatre, Mary Moody Northen Theatre, The Paramount Theatre, The State Theatre School of Acting, Summer Stock Austin, Texas Arts Project, the Texas Cultural Trust, Trinity Street Players, ZACH Theatre, and Zilker Theatre Productions. His students have performed in principal roles on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in regional theatre, been nominated for the Tony Award, and appeared in film, national tours, and on network television. He is the choreographer of two European concert tours.
In addition to his role as Musical Director of Music Theatre Online and Libretto with the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Adam was a contributing writer and arts critic with the Austin Chronicle for several years. He holds a master’s degree in music from the Florida State University, an Executive Certificate in Arts and Culture Strategy from the University of Pennsylvania, and undergraduate degrees from Kent State University and Youngstown State University’s Dana School of Music.
With affiliations including the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society and Voice and Speech Trainers Association, Adam is recipient of the B. Iden Payne Award for Outstanding Music Direction, the Shalom Austin Staff Exemplar of Excellence Award, and a New York Public Library Short-Term Research Fellowship.
